My favourite superfood
Blueberries or Myrtilles as they are called in French, are my favourite berries.
I just wish the season was longer as it is almost over and I am going to miss my daily treats.
Considered to be a superfood, the health benefits are second to none.
Blueberries are low in calories but high in nutrients.
1 cup of bluberries contains
Fiber: 3.6 grams
Vitamin C: 16% of the Daily Value (DV)
Vitamin K: 24% of the DV
Manganese: 22% of the DV
Blueberries are considered to be one of the top antioxidant foods - antioxidants protect your body from free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage your cells and contribute to aging and diseases, such as cancer.
Blueberries protect cholesterol in your blood from becoming damaged.
Blueberries may lower blood pressure and may help prevent heart disease.
Blueberries can help maintain brain function and improve memory
Anthocyanins in blueberries may have anti-diabetes effects.
Blueberries may reduce muscle damage after strenuous exercise.
Speaking of strenuous exercise I am off to convince French boyfriend that it would be nice to drive to a blueberry farm which unfortunately for us, is a couple of hours drive away. It is an organic farm where you have to pick your own and I am thinking 10 kilos so I think I may just have to be extra nice to FB today.
Belle journee a tous ♥
