New Arival - Created by Armandine in 1887

 This stunning embroidered sampler was created by Armandine in 1887. If only it could talk, what a story it would tell.

1887 was an interesting year for the French, on the 8th of  January the construction of foundation of the Eiffel Tower starts in Paris.

On the 1st of  July, work commenced on the iron superstructure and I imagine that the whole of France would have been intrigued and following the progress of what was to become a Paris ícon.

Clothing wise, bustles made a comeback and skirts and bodices were decorated with a lot of trim and frills, styles were exuberant.

At the same time, clothes were designed for women to wear in the workplace and to accommodate an increasing interest in outdoor activities for women. 

The thing I love about antiques is that they remind of days gone past and those who lived before us.
