French beds...

There is just something about antique french beds that I love. I love the crests on the beds and each one seemsm to have its own story.

I love them painted and unpainted.......

I love the side rails and I adore the carving on the bedheads.

I also love the capitone/corbeille louis style padded beds.......

Infact I think that it is safe to say that I just love french beds and everything about them.

A demain

  9. What beautiful French beds! I have an antique French bed in rosewood that is from about 1910 and a little night stand that goes with it too. The top is similar to the middle one in the first photo. I love the carvings too! Thank you for sharing such lovely photos!

  18. Hi Leeann,

I love them too and all the ones you have shown.
We have a shop that imports beds from France and they have some beautiful headboards, even though I might say they are very pricey.
The problem is that a lot of them are not King or Queen size and seem to be a double bed size.
I wonder if you seen any larger headboards, that would fit a King size bed?

    Enjoy your week
    Hugs
    Carolyn

  21. "Ditto"...I was lucky enough to find a bed that had a large enough headboard and footboard that it could be made into a king size bed . The side boards were salvaged and extended to accommodate the larger mattress. This larger size is rare--I looked 7 years for it. Thanks for sharing the name of the Louis style padded beds. This is my new favorite.

  22. Carolyn, You are so right about the size, as the majority of antique beds tend to be 140 wide by 190 long and it is possible to lengthen but not to widen.

Jermaine, you are lucky as I have been looking for a few years now and the larger beds are rare hence the reproductions are popular as they are made in the larger sizes.
