French Food Friday - Compote de mirabelles

How yummy does this mirabelle compote look.

I can assure you it tastes as good as it looks in this photo as this is what I had for my breakfast this morning.

Merci to un déjeuner de soleil for the fabulous recipe, which you can find below.

Compote de mirabelles

(for 4 people, or 4 jars of around 100 g)

500 g mirabelle plums already pitted (around 650 g whole)
30 g of honey (see this post on honey)
a nice pinch of quality cinnamon powder
the juice of half a lemon

Place the Mirabelle plums in a saucepan with the lemon juice. Bring to a simmer, add the honey then lower the heat and simmer gently for 5 to 8 minutes, until the fruit begins to stew without breaking up completely. Add cinnamon, mix and turn off. Let cool before eating or serving chilled.

Tips :
– This compote can be kept for 24 to 36 hours in the fridge, well covered with cling film on contact.
You can also freeze it (personally I prefer it more 'fresh' but it's practical especially for baby jars or out of season). In this case, thaw it gently overnight in a cool place.
– It is also ideal for babies from 6 months. In this case, omit the honey (up to a year, after that it's good 😉 and mix the preparation to make it smoother (it will also be a little more liquid).
– This compote is not particularly sweet, on the contrary, it gives pride of place to the sweetness of mirabelle plums. Depending on your tastes and the ripeness of the fruit, do not hesitate to add a little honey or sugar
– Here the honey gives roundness and warmth to the other flavors. But you can replace it with sugar or golden cane sugar
– Depending on the freshness and quality of the cinnamon, the compote will be more or less fragrant. It's up to you to adapt. Moreover, you can replace the cinnamon with the pulp of a vanilla pod, coriander powder or even cardamom (a delight!) as in this mirabelle plum jam with cardamom.
– Lemon allows to enhance the flavor and a better conservation
– To make it a more complete dessert, you can serve it with roasted almonds, cinnamon and honey ice cream or speculoos cookies, for example.

Bon week-end a tous ♥
