Long live the mariniere

Yesterday was one of those odd days where the temperature dropped 10 degrees and it rained most of the day.

It was a perfect day for wearing a mariniere -  these French stripe tops really are practical and perfect for a rainy day when the weather cannot make up it's mind  what it wants to do.

A most versatile item, you can wear one  with jeans, pants, a skirt or shorts -  they are a  fabulous and poractical item to have in  any wardrobe.

For the record, it was in 1858 that the marinière became the official uniform of French sailors. It was only in 1916, thanks to the brilliant Coco Chanel, that the sailor top took on the allure of a fashion piece.

Loved both in France and around the world, they have been seen on many a catwalk and the French Navy have recently taken the deision  to start selling them on their website.

Merci Coco and vivre le mariniere ♥♥
