Spending the Night with a French Queen

It takes a lot to impress French Boyfriend especially when it comes to traveling and I adore surprising him.

Sleeping in haunted Chateaux, intimate opera concerts in Rome, having a private lunch lunch on a roof terrace of a kasbah overlooking snow covered Atlas  mountains  in Morocco and the list goes on.

Sleeping with Eleanor of Aquitaine, King Henri and  Richard the Lionheart is something to add to the list.

We spent Saturday night sleeping in a fabulous hotel that forms part of Fontevraud Abbey complex which was created in 1101 and is one of the largest surviving monastic cities from the Middle Ages.

Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen of France and then of England thanks to her marriage to Henry II, is the emblematic figure of the Royal Abbey. She spent the end of her life here.

One of the perks of staying here is that you have unlimited access to the Abbey long after the tourists have left for the day.

It is a experience like no other and let's just say French Boyfriend was impressed....

belle semaine a tous ♥
